Blackblood
From Snowblossom
A Blackblood is a member of a humanoid race descended from vampires, half-vampires and humans. Blackbloods can mate with humans, which produces Blackblood children 50% of the time and human children 50% of the time. Otherwise, Blackbloods can only reproduce with other Blackbloods.
Blackbloods are sometimes considered more powerful than vampires. In some ways, they are - they have many of the abilities of a vampire without the weaknesses. However, Blackbloods are not possessed of the inherent strength and power of vampires.
Blackbloods do not age. They appear to age, although it takes centuries, but this has no effects on their body. Eventually, when they appear to be late middle aged, they stop even the appearance of aging. No matter their age, they appear graceful and handsome.
The members of House Swan, such as Lady Swan, are all Blackbloods.
Blackbloods as Characters
Blackblood characters possess the following racial traits.
- Strength +2, Dexterity +2, Charisma +2.
- Size: Medium.
- A Blackblood's base land speed is 30 feet.
- Darkvision out to 60 feet.
- +2 natural armor bonus.
- Blood Dependency: A Blackblood must drink 7 pints of fresh humanoid blood per week. (Note: An adult human contains an average of 10 points of blood.) Three pints of animal blood counts as 1 pint of human blood. Blood from magical beasts, dragons, monstrous humanoids and giants can also be consumed (2 pints count as 1 pint of human blood) and Blackbloods often consider these bloods a delicacy. Blood can be drank from a living victim or from a recently slain corpse. A Blackblood who goes a week without drinking the required amount of blood is fatigued and suffers a -6 penalty to Charisma as her skin dessicates and her spirit is drained. The fatigue and the Charisma penalty cannot be removed by resting or by magic. Drinking 7 pints of blood as described above immediately removes the penalty (this blood drinking can be spread over the course of a week, as per usual).
- Blood Healing: Each pint of blood consumed by a Blackblood restores 1d8 hit points to her.
- Creature of the Night: (Special Quality) Blackbloods have problems in daylight. Under daylight conditions, all of a Blackblood's rolls suffer a -1 penalty.
- Favored Class: Rogue.
- Level adjustment: +1.
- Challenge Rating: equal to class level
A Blackblood also chooses one of the following special abilies:
- Alternate Form (Su): The Blackblood can take the form of a wolf at will. If the Blackblood has 8HD or more, she can also take the form of a bat at will.
- Charming Gaze (Su): The Blackblood can charm a victim just by looking into his or her eyes. By spending a standard action speaking to a victim, the Blackblood can affect the target with charm person (caster level equal to her HD, Saving Throw DC equal to 10 + 1/2 Blackblood's HD + Blackblood's Cha modifier). A Blackblood can use this ability 3 times per day.
- Damage Reduction (Su): The Blackblood gains DR 5/silver.
- Fast Healing (Su): Whenever the Blackblood has 0 or more hit points but less than half of her hit points, she gains Fast Healing 2.
Special: A Blackblood can choose more than one of the special abilities listed above - each additional ability adds +1 to the character's Level Adjustment and CR.
