Selara is the smallest of the Middle Kingdoms.

Selara is known far and wide for being the home of the Arcane Academy, the greatest institution for wizards in the world. The Academy, in many ways, justifies Selara's existence.

Thanks to the academy, Selara has a strong economy. Many of the citizens of Selara gather raw materials for the Academy, or otherwise provide goods or services for the many mages who have strongholds in Selara.

Any adolescent who shows a promising skill with magic is given a free education at the Academy. Students from other nations must pay the steep tuition of the Academy. For this reason, every young Selari child is introduced to magic at an early age with the hopes that they will gain admission to the Academy.

Citizens

(40% human, 25% eladrin, 10% elves, 25% other)

Selara hosts the world's most varied populace, with many races seeking knowledge in the great libraries and arcane towers of the nation.

However, because of the focus on magic and the arcane arts, many of those who do not weild magic live simple lives in small towns smattered around the landscape. Selara is by no means a nation of wonders - most of the nation is still poor commoners who scrape a life out of the land.

Government

The government of Selara is quite complicated. Although it is a democracy, technically, most of the population has no idea how they are ruled.

Although not technically a magocracy, Selara's government is run mostly by mages. An elected Senate does most of the governing, although fewer than 10% of the Selari populace take part in this elections. The Senate assigns executives to collect taxes, deal with criminals and the like. The chief executive assigned by the Senate is the Lord Executor, who oversees all military and bureaucratic executives.

There is also a royal family, including a king - King Mathias Welsh. Many citizens think the King is their leader, but he is, in fact, a figurehead and a diplomat only.
