The Divide
"The Divide" is the great event in the ancient history of The Eye which split the Telwadir into the elves, the eladrin and the drow.
The Beginning
The Leshii, powerful fey who cared for the Telwadir in the ancient Feywild, were great enemies of the Fomorians. An ancient war threatened to tear the Feywild apart, so the Leshii carried their children, the Telwadir, into the Eye with the blessing of Mother Dawn. There they made the city of Telwar and returned to fight the Fomorians again.
When the Leshii left the Eye, they left the foundling race to their own devices. As such, they were forced to find their own way. While the Telwadir were "children" of the Leshii, they were quite mature by our standards. They quickly discovered the necessity of magic, which helped them use and maintain the spells on their arcane city. As time went on, a governing body of elders took control of the city and kept the peace.
The Fractures
As the Telwadir grew, they experienced their own growing pains. The city began to divide into factions. Those who harnessed the arcane arts created their own guild at odds with those who called upon the divine. Those who worshiped the moon argued with those who worshiped the sun. But the most dangerous faction were those who wished to leave the walls of the city and explore the world outside, something the city's elders forbade.
Attack on the City of Telwar
As these factions began to strain against the leash of the city elders, the city of Telwar itself began to run less smoothly. The elders sensed the unrest and tried their best to reign it in. However, peace came to the city rather tragically and accidentally.
A particularly nasty tribe of trolls raided the city of Telwar. Many times before, the city had been attacked. Each time, the Keepers - the city's elite guards - had repelled the attack. But in this instance, the city was ravaged. Many Telwadir were killed, and a young child - Nena - was taken away from the city.
Snowblossom
After the attack, a young Keeper named Snowblossom gathered her armor and weapons and sought to exit the city. However, the Keepers were reluctant to let her go. Indeed, the city elders arrived at the scene and informed her that if she left the city, she would be exiled forever. Defiantly, Snowblossom left, taking with her the wizard Kamizar.
This was the first adventure, according to most, and began the grand tradition of the adventuring party in the Eye.
When the duo returned with young Nena, safe and sound, the city elders immediately had them all detained. Snowblossom pleaded her case, and the unrest in the city, which had subsided after the attacks, returned in full force. Within a week of their imprisonment, the city's inhabitants were nearly ready to riot, arguing over the meaning of justice in Telwar. The city's elders debated amongst themselves about what to do with Snowblossom and Kamizar.
Strange visitors arrived just as the powderkeg was about to blow. They were the drow, Telwadir who had already left the city and explored the outside world. Though some of them bore dark skin and strange eyes, the appearance of the drow made it clear to the city's elders that controlling the life of every Telwadir was impossible and, indeed, unjust.
The city's elders made a final decree which left every Telwadir to his or her own devices.
The Division
According to this legend (which all three races acknowledge as being basically true), this caused the splintering of the three races. Those who were drow remained drow, and left the city of Telwar, who were destined to never return. Those who decided to strike out into the world became the elves. Those who remained in Telwar became the eladrin.
