Metaphysics

The world of the Eye is not a round planet like the worlds that we’re familiar with. The Eye exists on a very different set of physics than our own world. Imagine the whole of the universe is an infinite spiritual realm.

Now imagine, at the "center" of this infinite space, there is a finite realm of stable reality, surrounded by Seams that hold back the various spiritual worlds and planes.

The physical world of the Eye, where the mortals dwell, is a gap between the Seams – an elliptical swell. This gap is referred to as "The Eye" because it is almond-shaped like an eye, curving in a near-circle with points at the East and West extremes.

The boundaries of the Eye are not walls or lines in the sand. As the land gets closer and closer to the Seam, it gives more and more to the spirit world. It becomes inhospitable – cold and icy in the North, and hot and smoggy in the South. To the East, there is Ataxia, the great, endless desert dotted with enormous mountains. To the West, a great sea full of monsters and rocky archipelagos. The further across the land one travels, the more unstable things get.

Because of this, the four elements have associations with the four cardinal directions - air with north, fire with south, earth with east and water with west.

The lands closer to the Seams are also full of larger and more powerful creatures, mythical beasts that few have heard of but many have dreamt of in nightmares. It is said that the Gods live beyond the Seam, and if that is true, then their land is guarded by inhospitable conditions and deadly creatures.

The inhabitable land between the Seams is quite large. At its widest point, it stretches over fifteen thousand miles from North to South, and it is approximately twenty-five thousand miles across the widest part of the Eye.

A sun moves over the Eye, rising in the far east and traveling across the equator and setting in the west over the endless sea. The sun’s counterpart, the moon, begins to rise as the sun disappears, dominating the night sky and casting twilight over the Eye.

A day in the eye is divided into two 12-hour half-days - one hour for each of the Gods of the Pantheon. A year in the Eye is marked by four seasons, each season containing three months of approximately 30 days. The first day of the year is the first day of Spring, and the final day of the year is the last day of Winter.
